Writing
We follow Talk for Writing throughout school, applying an imitate, innovate, invent approach. As part of this, children learn to imitate a text by orally rehearsing it, using a text map to support with this. Children will then write an innovated version of the text, using the structure they have learned to apply the grammatical features they have studied. Finally, children will invent their own version of the text. We also ensure children have access to cross-curricular writing opportunities.
A video illustrating the Talk for Writing approach can be seen below.
Spelling is taught from EYFS to Year 2 through the Little Wandle phonics scheme. After this has been completed, children move onto learning spellings using the Purple Mash progression.
