Sporting Round Up

Last night, the St Francis netball team played a friendly netball match with local school St Paul's to help our squad prepare for next week's BwD Netball Competition (16th May).

St Pauls - a team who play in the top tier of the Blackburn Central Netball Leagues - brought a strong squad, which made for a very entertaining game in the sunshine. However, St Francis more than held their own in an enjoyable 6-6 draw, with St Paul's scoring to equalise in the last few seconds of the game!

In other recent competition news, St Francis has also had a great deal of success across a number of different sports:

At the BwD Cross Country event in March, the school saw two top-20 finishes in the Y5/6 Girls race (Inez 6th overall), while the Year 4 groups went one better and had 3 top 10 finishers between them, including the overall BwD Girls Winner (Sienna)!

At the BwD Swimming Gala, the St Francis girls team had a terrific night, with a medal in the '100m IM' (Selena) - our first such medal in several years! The combined relay team also finished a spectacular 4th place in Blackburn in both the freestyle and medley events - our best result in a decade or more!

Meanwhile, at the Year 4/5 BwD Cricket Competition last week, a group of 8 boys and girls represented the school brilliantly en route to the quarter finals of our Lancashire School Games Qualifier. In the end, the team was beaten by eventual tournament champions Lower Darwen (only by a handful of runs, mind you), late in the game.

Finally, the school football teams continue to perform admirably. The girls football team secured a terrific 0-0 league draw against St Pauls in April - all the more impressive when you consider St Paul's finished unbeaten, joint 3rd overall in Blackburn during March's tournament!

The football squad also secured yet another win in April, 1-0 over a very competent Longshaw side, leaving St Francis with 3 wins from our 3 league games so far. If the team can defeat St James on 19th May and then St Anne's (in June, TBC) they will secure their first BwD league title in several years!
