As you will be aware from the media, UNISON, GMB and UNITE (public services trade unions) and the NUT (teacher trade union) will be calling on their members to take industrial action on Thursday 10th July 2014.
The action (a one day strike) will result in partial or whole school closures across the country.
The decision to close the school or send pupils home is never taken lightly, but in this instance, where staff have elected to take lawful industrial action, I will have no choice but to take appropriate steps to ensure the health, safety and well being of all pupils. Legally we are not allowed to cover classes and union members are not at liberty to inform employers of their action until 48 hrs previous to the strike.
We are aware that class/school closures inconvenience parents and carers and so I am writing to give you notice of the impact of the action on this school.
The following arrangements will be in place:
St Francis Church of England Primary School will have 3 classes closed on Thursday 10th July 2014; Year 1, Year 2 and Year 6.
Classes open will be Reception class, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5.
(Unfortunately we cannot allow children from other classes to join Reception, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 5 as we would be breaking the law.)
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Mrs Sharon Thomas
