In writing we will begin by learning two poems about whales and perform these with actions. We will then move on to reading and learning the story of 'The Storm Whale' before making innovations to create our own stories. We will then produce our own ‘Finding Tales’ using the skills that that we have learned.
In our Maths work we will be continuing to work on Multiplication and Division (Please try to use ‘Times Table Rock Stars’ at home which will really help your child). We will then be learning about Statistics (interpreting information tables and graphs). The term will be completed by a Geometry unit where we will be learning about the properties of shape.
In science we will be looking again at the needs of humans for survival and linking these to the items needed by explorers on expeditions. We will also be looking at some of the plants and animals in our local environment.
In history we will be learning about some of the great historical explorers. We will try to find similarities and differences between our lives and theirs. The main explorers that we are going to focus on are Christopher Columbus and Neil Armstrong.
In our geography work this half term we are going to be looking at a contrasting non-European locality. I have chosen Darwin in Australia due to its link to the explorer Charles Darwin.
In R.E. we will be learning about Jesus being a friend to everyone. We will find out about some of Jesus’ friends and some of the people that he helped. We will also be learning about some of the miracles that he carried out.
In our Design Technology topic the children will be making wheeled vehicles. They will design a vehicle that can carry 20 cubes. They will attach wheels using cutting and joining techniques. (If you have any spare cardboard cereal or shoeboxes then they will be gratefully received)
