Welcome to Year 3

Reading books

Reading books must be brought into school every day.  This is so that children can read their books during Guided Reading sessions or read with a teacher. Currently, reading books are changed every Tuesday morning.

PE kits

Must be complete and in school at all times.  PE will be on Mondays and Fridays.

Swimming- every Friday: Autumn Term ONLY

The first week is a dry week but swimming lessons will begin on Friday 15th September. Girls will need an all in one swimsuit (no bikinis), a swimming hat and a towel.  Boys will need swim shorts (not to be below the knee) with netting and a towel.

Will be given out on Thursday and due in on Tuesday.  This will consist of mental maths, time tables or Mathletics work and spellings to learn.

Each term topic homework will be sent home based on our current topic.

There is an excellent website which has games to help the children with the spelling of common exception words.  Click on the link to go straight to it!

In English this half term we will be concentrating on SPaG (spelling, punctuation and grammar) and creative writing using Talk4Writing. We will be learning how to write a non-chronological report about unicorns and an adventure story with suspense.

Our sentence and word work will focus on the sentence building blocks we have been developing in class.  These help us to write more complex and interesting sentences.

Click on this link below to practise sentence building.

If you want to practise the different forms of writing we have been learning in class, click on the book and you can have some fun writing texts of your own.

Click on the link below to practise some maths games.

The best way to practise maths at home is to use the Mathletics website to exercise your maths muscles! Click on the link below and it will take you there.

Our topic this term is London.

We will be learning about London and its famous landmarks. We will compare and contrast the locality to Blackburn.

Click on Big Ben (above) for the website about London.

We will find out about Forces and Magnets.

This link will take you to the BBC Schools Science Clips site.

Select Ages 7-8 years for Magnets and Springs.

Select Ages 8-9 years for Friction.
