Lancashire Sports Awards
School of the Year for Sport 2013
Competing with hundreds of Primary schools, Secondary schools, Colleges and other specialist education providers all across the county, St Francis Primary has been chosen as Lancashire School of the Year 2013 for its development of School Sport.
From the Lancashire Sports Awards Website:
St Francis CE Primary School is a relatively small school in Blackburn but has had quite an unprecedented haul of sporting successes. They have had successes in boys football, cricket, cross country and swimming. St Francis have been inspiring more children to become involved in school sport, and embedding the spirit of the Olympics into their programme of activity. St Francis has transformed over the past five years by introducing more after school sessions and by strengthening their relationship with local club providers. They are extremely proud of their accomplishments and the effect it has had on the children.
St Francis was initially recognised as School of the Year for Blackburn with Darwen in April 2013, which subsequently led to its nomination in the wider Lancashire Sports Awards category.
St Francis was also voted as the Lancashire Telegraph's 'People's Choice' award winner for its Grass Roots awards, back in November 2012.
The school is exceptionally proud to have been recognised for the efforts of its staff and pupils, and hopes to use these successes to further increase participation in, and enthusiasm for, sport going forwards.
