School Meals

The school is fortunate in having its own purpose-built kitchen providing meals at lunchtime each day. They are served in the school hall using a Choice Menu system. Children are given a rotated 3 week menu to pre decide their main course and dessert choice, including a vegetarian options which are then served in a canteen style in the school hall. In addition to this choice there is always a salad bar to supplement each meal which contains salad, bread, sauces and additional condiments.

Meals cost £2.20 per day (£11 per week). At present the Government are funding all school meals for Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils through the Universal Free School Meals strategy. Therefore all families whose infant children choose to have a school meal do not have to pay. For juniors free meals are available for those who qualify. Mrs Nicholson in the office will be pleased to advise and has a supply of appropriate claim forms.

Payments for meals are collected on Monday mornings for the week. Please send the payment – cash or cheque – into school in a sealed envelope (payments do get lost) with your child’s name and class on the front. Cheques should be made payable to St Francis CE Primary School, please.

Some parents wish to pay monthly, half-termly or termly in advance. If you wish to do this please see Mrs Nicholson in the office who will cost out the payment for you. Credits, rather than cash refunds, are given for meals not consumed because of absence or illness.

If children prefer they may bring a packed lunch (well balanced) to be eaten in the school hall at lunchtime. This should be in a named bag/lunchbox. Please do not send cans or glass bottles.

If your child wishes to change from school meals to a packed lunch or packed lunch to a school meal, they may do so. However, we would appreciate notice to Mrs Nicholson of at least 1 month to enable the cook to make the adjustment to her stock order.
